Pan Am Athletes' Village, Toronto, ON

When it was announced that the 2015 Pan America and Para Pan America Games were coming to Toronto we were excited to be a part of the construction team. Numerous new buildings were built and renovations to existing structures became a top priority for the Games. Backed by Infrastrure Ontario and Water Front Toronto, the athlete’s base camp was constructed in an incredibly unique part of Toronto adjacent to the Distillery district.

This unique project, named the Canary District in honour of the famed restaurant,  was in the works for several years. The original planning was accelerated to complete construction before the Pan American and Para Pan American Games. The former industrial land was transformed into a mix-use sustainable neighbourhood to house 10,000 athletes and officials before opening its doors to its future occupants. This sustainable community was built under minimum LEED Gold requirements.

Acapulco Pools completed the construction of a 25M lap pool and a leisure pool with a movable floor. Keeping with the theme of sustainability, both pools were outfitted with UV disinfection decreasing the amount of chemicals needed to keep the pool sanitized. Now that the games have taken place, the pools will be operated by the YMCA to allow the residents of the Canary District the opportunity to access the facilities.
